When I was 15 I tore my ACL. This injury brought me so much instability that my knee would “give out” as I was walking down a flight of stairs. Despite active follow up with my GP and physiotherapist(s), it was 4 years from when I first hurt my knee until when I actually received ACL reconstruction surgery.
Fast forward 20 years: I recently underwent ACL revision surgery privately as my initial graft failed. I have two young boys, work full time and could not IMAGINE the possibility of waiting years to receive proper care for my knee again. I find it disturbing that British Columbians are having the choice taken away from them to access the care they need.
