Charter Health Crowd

I have been on the public health waiting list for more than 4 years

I just found out that I am no longer able to have a chance of getting better because private surgery is "not allowed" anymore. I have been on the public health waiting list for more than 4 years to see a neurosurgeon for a compressed nerve in my back, which is causing symptoms into my leg. I used to be so active in hiking, biking, etc., and now am relegated to a short walk round the block because of the pain and discomfort. I've done everything that I can to get on top of this and will continue to try but now I feel totally let down by the health system.

A few years ago, I went to a private neurosurgeon at Cambie Surgery for a compressed nerve in my neck and it helped tremendously. Before the surgery, I had gone through the process of trying every other health profession before deciding on surgery. If I hadn't had the surgery, my symptoms would have worsened as it would have taken ages to get the surgery done through the public health system. I don't necessarily want surgery for my back but because I have gone through everything else, I don't know what to do now. I've tried chiro, acupuncture, loads of physio (and am still doing physio). I've tried ignoring the pain and just doing my activities and I guess that is what I will have to continue to do until I find someone who can help.

I'm so disappointed that private health is being taken away from Canadians. It works in other countries so why would the government want to hurt people by taking away this option? I will continue to find someone who can help but having this option taken away is so frustrating. Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion. Katrina.
