in 2011 I had my right hip replaced at Sunnybrook hospital. All went well, but my back continued to cause problems, so i was referred to Dr Malcolm at Sunnybrook for evaluation. After almost one year off work and multiple apps with chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage, etc and no significant improvement in my status, I have been told that yes I do need surgery on my back - a laminectomy and minor discectomy at L4/L5 and I will have to wait another six months for this to happen under Michael Ford at Sunnybrook.
My problem with this is that I am going to have my surgery done elsewhere because I can't wait another six months. My dental practice has already dissipated terribly because I cannot work. Had I been cared for more expeditiously I would have earned a significant amount of money and paid taxes here in Ontario, while employing over ten people who also pay taxes.
I am one of the very fortunate people who can afford to seek treatment elsewhere at the cost of leaving my home and province to do so. It makes no sense from any perspective to make access to treatment so difficult when other countries have proven that a hybrid system can and does work for all involved.

We need to make this an election issue right away -- get this issue on social media to keep everyone informed! I did have my surgery done in Buffalo where the Canadian-trained neurosurgeon is busy treating almost exclusively Canadian patients who have been forced across the border for care -- I would much rather have spent my money supporting Canadian taxes and people, but apparently the government doesn't want or need any more tax money.
