My son (mid - twenties) has been suffering from extreme fatigue and dizziness for the past 2 years. The general practitioner was reluctant to refer him. My son had to keep returning to his office feeling dizziness and unwell before he finally referred him. We have been waiting to see a GI specialist, waiting for a muscle biopsy, and waiting to see a cardiologist for the past 12 - 18 months. My son is unable to work, attend school, or function. He is dizzy and sick. Some of his lab results are totally off and yet the doctor states, he is not sure, must wait for the specialist who never calls.
My son does not smoke, drink, or do drugs. He wants to return to school and get on with his life but the Canadian medical system is too backed up and bogged down to help him. It should not take years and years and years for a young person to get a diagnosis. The more I connect with others on - line, the more I realize that Canadians medical system is failing people and dysfunctional. If you want proof of this, just ask the Canadians who wait 5 to 10 years for a simple diagnosis.
